Youth Outreach Worker

London InterCommunity Health Centre

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted November 22, 2018.

The London InterCommunity Health Centre seeks a dedicated and passionate Youth Outreach Worker to join our Child, Youth & Families team. Serving youth and their families as a mentor and advocate in the North and East London communities, you will engage “hard to reach youth,” with the ability to build trust easily and see the strengths and capacity in the surrounding community.

We seek a creative, persistent individual with an understanding of positive youth development, outreach abilities, and knowledge of available community resources and supports. You demonstrate an awareness of the effect that oppression, barriers, poverty and diversity have on youth, families and the community and will support other team members to maximize outreach potential.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Youth Outreach Worker is a frontline staff member responsible for prevention, early intervention, program development and community outreach services with youth and their families.


  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a community college or university and/or significant experience in health promotion and community development;
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of relevant experience in a community setting working with youth and families from diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability to reach and engage marginalized youth from priority neighbourhoods in activities that promote assets, competencies and resiliency;
  • A proven approach to working collaboratively with youth, parents and community partners / resources to ensure access to programs, services and opportunities;
  • Experience organizing, delivering and facilitating workshops/programs and training for youth;
  • A commitment to working as a valued member of an interdisciplinary team;
  • Awareness and understanding of the social determinants of health and experience working within a health promotion framework;
  • Ability to work with diverse communities with respect, confidentiality, sensitivity, competence, creativity, innovation, cultural understanding, and non-judgement;
  • Ability to initiate various approaches to problem solving with realistic goals;
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of MS Office Products and electronic client records.
